Quick performance tip for running Linux VMs under Virtual Server
Want to speed up your Linux VMs under VS2005R2? Disable the background. While it looks pretty cool, disabling it and just having a solid color, will give you a noticable performance boost when working on the desktop.

Virtual Server: Cant Add a VM in Virtual Server
If you've moved or removed a VM around you'll eventually run into this issue. When you try to re-add a VM with the same name as the one that was removed, you get the message "The virtual machine could not be added. The virtual machine configuration could not be added. A configuration with this name already exists."
The solution to this problem is pretty simple, but it's definitely not obvious. You simply need to delete the shortcut with the same name that’s located here:
%allusersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Virtual Server\Virtual Machines
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Virtual Server\Virtual Machines
Under Windows Vista it's located here:
%allusersprofile%\Microsoft\Virtual Server\Virtual Machines

Virtual Server NIC Connectivity Loss with Broadcoms
If you've got a server with Broadcom NICs and can't get your networking to work properly check out the 2 KBs below:
Here's some info I gleaned from previous posts in the ms.pub.vs newsgroup originally posted by "baillard":I have been working with both Dell and Microsoft on this issue and
solved it today. I confirmed that the lack of the Scalable Networking Pack
(SNP) patch "WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB912222-v9-x64-ENU.exe"
was causing the issue. Installing it fixed the connectivty, and removing it
broke it again. I have yet to test this under 32 bit Windows, but assume
that "WindowsServer2003-KB912222-v9-x86-ENU.exe"
will fix it there as well. I only installed the SNP, no registry settings
were changed or reconfigured.
